Privacy Policy for Night Sky Guide

Night Sky Guide ("we", "our", or "us") is made by Borama. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This policy describes what information the Night Sky Guide app ("App") uses, why, and what leaves your device.

1. The short version

• The App has no account, no sign-in, and no advertising.
• Your location is used on the device to compute where stars, planets and the Moon are in your sky. Your precise location is never uploaded.
• We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used, so we can improve it. It records anonymous usage events, not your identity.

2. Information the App uses and why

• Location (while using the App): The positions of stars, planets and the Moon depend on where you stand. The App asks for your approximate location and uses it only on your device to draw the sky. Location is not stored beyond the current session and is never sent anywhere.
• Motion and compass sensors: The App reads the device's gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer to know which way the phone is pointing. These readings stay on the device.
• Microphone and speech recognition (optional): If you turn on voice commands in Settings, the App listens for the words "pause" and "go" so you can freeze and resume the sky view hands-free. Speech is processed with Apple's speech recognition service, which may send audio to Apple to be transcribed under Apple's privacy policy. We never receive the audio or the transcripts. Voice commands are off by default.
• Front camera (eye tracking): On iPhones with Face ID, the App uses the TrueDepth front camera to measure where your eyes are relative to the screen, so the stars line up with your actual line of sight. This runs entirely on the device, in real time. No images, video, depth data or face data are recorded, stored, or sent anywhere, and the data is never used to identify you. If you decline camera access the App still works, using a manual alignment instead.
• Photo library: Some test builds include an experimental night-sky camera test that can save a photo to your own photo library. The App never uploads photos.

3. Usage analytics

The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase, a service provided by Google, to collect anonymous usage data: which screens and features are used, which stars and constellations are narrated, how long narrations are listened to, whether the sky needed manual alignment, and technical facts about the device such as model, operating system version, app version, language and coarse country. This data is tied to a random installation identifier, not to your name, email or contact details. It is used only to improve the App and is not sold or used for advertising. Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy and Firebase's privacy terms. The Sun's altitude at your location is recorded as a rounded number so we can tell night-time use from daytime use; your coordinates are not.

4. Network access

Apart from sending those analytics events to Google, the App works offline. The only other network request it can make is to download public satellite orbit data from CelesTrak (celestrak.org) when the satellite layer is enabled. That request contains no personal information and no location.

5. Data stored on your device

Your preferences (zoom, sky brightness, narration and voice-command switches, and any sky alignment you drag into place) are stored locally on your device and are removed when you delete the App.

6. Children

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

7. Disclosure of data

We do not share, sell, or disclose your data to third parties other than Google as our analytics provider described above. If required by law we would comply with valid requests from public authorities.

8. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
